Located approximately 480 kilometres north of Adelaide on the edge of the Flinders Ranges National Park, Parachilna has an official population of just seven. Taken from the Aboriginal word 'patajilnda' the name of Parachilna means 'place of peppermint gum trees'. A true wilderness town, situated on the highway between Port Augusta and Leigh Creek, the only substantial building is the Prairie hotel, a grand sandstone and limestone building renowned for its modern amenities and gourmet dining.
