Holidays and Hotels in Fox Glacier

Fox Glacier is one of the iconic places to visit in South Island, New Zealand. Named after Sir William Fox, New Zealand's Prime Minister from 1869 to 1872, Fox Glacier describes both the glacier and the nearby village. Fox Glacier is twinned with Franz Josef glacier and descends from the Southern Alps down into temperate rainforest just 300 metres above sea level.

There are so many ways to see Fox Glacier, either a simple walk to the terminal face, or an ice-hiking adventure or by booking a sightseeing flight. In addition to the glaciers there are local glow worm caves just a short walk from the town centre. Fox Glacier is a bustling place with many cafes and restaurants. Don't miss visiting beautiful Lake Matheson, one of the most photographed lakes in New Zealand (on a clear day it reflects Mount Cook).

    Passengers

    Airlines may have different policies or prices for adults (12 years plus), children (2-11 years old) and infants (under 2 years), according to the age of the passenger on the return journey.

    Infants may travel on an adult's lap or in a seat (at a child price). However, if an infant returns on or after its 2nd birthday then a child fare must be purchased as a seat will be required.

    Unaccompanied Minors

    Airlines will accept unaccompanied children for travel. Each carrier has differing conditions and ages for unaccompanied minors. However, terms will include the payment of a full adult fare and official documentation from the parent / guardian. If you would like to make a booking please contact our travel centre for further details.

    Children: 2-11 years inclusive. Infants: under 2 years.
    Ages based on return travel date.

    Children under 2 years old can travel in laps or seats (seats charged at child price).

    Infant Seating

    The minimum age limit for infants on all scheduled flights is two weeks of age on the date of departure. Infants will not be charged Air Passenger Duty or Airport Taxes (unless you are purchasing a seat for your infant). Other taxes may apply.

    Most airlines insist that infants are secured with an infant lap-strap (which loops around the adult's seat belt) during the scheduled flight. However, some airlines do not make lap-straps available. This is most common for American and German carriers. Infants can travel in their own seats, with or without a car seat. Infants and children travelling in their own seat, but not in a car seat, can use the standard adult seat belt or you can supply an appropriate Child Restraint System (CRS).
