Avis Australia Car Hire Conditions
- Rental period: Prices are calculated on 24-hour periods (1 day).
- Age/licence: Group X – D minimum age 21. Other groups minimum age 25. Surcharge of A$27.50 per day applies for renters between 21 and 24 years. A valid and full driving licence is required and must be held for a minimum of one year.
- Additional drivers: There is no charge for additional drivers.
- Airport Concession Recovery Fee: This varies between 5% and 20% dependant on which airport you are collecting the vehicle from. A valid credit card must be presented to pay for all additional charges.
- Multiple Hire: Rent in more than one Australian location and you can combine the total rental days, which may qualify for a lower daily price.
- Insurance excess: A$2,750 is the excess for vehicles X – V, but this can be reduced to A$385 by paying A$22 per day at the time of vehicle collection. Excess for groups K and W is A$5,500 and can be reduced to A$1,100 by paying A$33 per day.
- One-way rental policy: Continuous rentals of a minimum duration of 72 hours do not incur a one-way rental fee (with some exceptions, please ask for details). Oneway rentals are not permitted for group X.
- Restricted driving roads/areas: Your Travel Designer can provide you with a list of restricted roads/areas. Should the vehicle be driven over the restricted roads/areas your insurance cover will be void.
- Vehicle types: please note the vehicles shown are examples of the type of vehicle you will receive. We cannot guarantee a specific make or model.
- Tolls: A number of motorways and city link roads in Sydney and Melbourne are electronic tolls only and do not have toll booths. Please see your Avis Rental Sales Agent upon collection of your vehicle for advice.
Avis New Zealand Car Hire Conditions
- Rental period: Prices are calculated on 24-hour periods (one day) and a minimum three-day rental period applies.
- Age/licence: You must be 21 years of age and have held a valid and full driving licence for at least a year.
- Additional drivers: There is no charge for additional authorised drivers.
- Country locations: A remote location surcharge of NZ$50 plus GST is applicable to rentals commencing at the following locations: Greymouth, Hokitika, Westport and Gisborne. Applies to all car types.
- Crossing from one island to the other: When travelling between the islands, change-over vehicles are supplied in Wellington and Picton. Avis will also offer this service between Rotorua and Christchurch and vice versa. This is calculated as one hire, provided the vehicle is picked up within five hours. A minimum three days’ hire on each island applies and at least five days’ notice is required. Groups F, P, V and W require a minimum five days in each island.
- Insurance excess: Rates include insurance with a Mandatory Excess of $250 + GST which is paid on collection of the vehicle by credit card. Debit cards are not accepted.
- Road restrictions: Driving on the following roads is not permitted: Tasman Valley Road, Skippers Road, Ninety Mile Beach and unformed roads including beaches.
