Itinerary:

DAY 1: SYDNEY – HUNTER VALLEY (160 KMS – 2 HOURS 30 MINUTES DRIVING TIME)

Travel north across the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Call into Wollombi, a town famous for its convict history and Aboriginal legends. Pass through the town of Millfield into Cessnock before reaching the Hunter Valley

DAY 2: HUNTER VALLEY – PORT STEPHENS (121 KMS – 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES DRIVING TIME)

Leave the Hunter Valley and travel northeast to Port Stephens, a natural bay twice the size of Sydney Harbour and almost enclosed by two dormant volcanic headlands. Bottlenose dolphins frequent the bay and there is fabulous seafood and great scuba diving from the beach.

DAY 3: PORT STEPHENS – COFFS HARBOUR (450 KMS – 6 HOURS 15 MINUTES DRIVING TIME)

Journey along the Pacific Highway and travel north to Port Macquarie, the mid-way point between Sydney and Brisbane. ‘Port’ as it is known, is one of the oldest towns in the State. Continue to Coffs Harbour – a tourist resort in the centre of a tropical fruit growing area.

DAY 4: COFFS HARBOUR – BYRON BAY (330 KMS – 5 HOURS DRIVING TIME)

This northern stretch of New South Wales contains some of the most beautiful natural areas in Australia. Travel north to Byron Bay, the most easterly point in Australia; or explore further afield on the 70kms of beaches on the Gold Coast.

DAY 5: BYRON BAY

Today is free to spend at your leisure. Enjoy the restaurants and cafés, take a surfing lesson or simply relax on the beach.

DAY 6: BYRON BAY – BRISBANE (100 KMS – 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES DRIVING TIME)

Leaving the Gold Coast Highway, join the Pacific Highway northbound to Brisbane where you will return your Avis car.
