Taupo Holidays

The stunning area of Lake Taupo, located in the centre of the North Island, was actually formed by a huge volcanic eruption in 186AD, the effects of which were so large that they could be seen as far as China and Europe. Today, the lake is the hub of many diverse activities, where beautiful landscape views provide a backdrop and a relaxed atmosphere pervades.

Things to do in Taupo

From trout fishing and sky diving to geothermal hikes and kayak expeditions where ancient rock carvings can be seen. Lake Taupo is brimming with exciting activities to try, however when you want to sit back and relax, head to the naturally heated spa pools or explore the bustling town that offers a great choice of cafés and restaurants.

Sitting at the edge of the largest lake in Australia, the town of Taupo is the perfect base from which to partake in a multitude of outdoor activities, from trout fishing, ski Mount Ruapehu, and explore the geothermal parks.

Popular experiences on your Taupo holiday include Huka Falls, geothermal walks, a prawn farm, lake cruises, New Zealand's first public cable wakeboarding park and guided kayak expeditions to see the rock carvings at Mine Bay. The region is also great for year-round mountain biking, with the recent completion of the Great Lake Trail and there are some great opportunities for cycling, hiking and golf too.
