Gourmet escape

Arrive into the cosmopolitan city of Adelaide and spend the next couple of days exploring all it has to offer. The streets are packed full of historical and cultural sights as well as plenty of fantastic restaurants and bars to please even the most experienced foodie. The city centre is also only 15 minutes away from the coast with its long stretches of white sand and picturesque promenades. Join a tour to Adelaide Central Market, a haven of premium food and wine products. Enjoy a fun and interactive walking tour with a local food expert, wander the halls and experience the buzz of the market whilst learning about the local produce on offer and taking part in tastings. 

Today you will leave the city and embark on a journey to Kangaroo Island which is also known as Australia's zoo without fences. A coach will take you to the ferry which will transfer you over to Kangaroo island, you will then collect your hire car and spend the next 3 days exploring the island at your leisure. Stop at Cliffords Honey farm to sample the homemade honey ice cream before driving over to Seal Bay to take a walk along the beach which is home to a colony of Australian Sea Lions. Visit Flinders Chase national park to explore some of the most incedible rock formations including the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arc. With so much to do you definitely need at least 3 days to explore, before heading back to Adelaide make sure you stop off at one of the local wineries for a tasting plate and a nice chilled glass of wine.

This morning pick up your car and travel north out of the city to the Barossa, South Australia's famous wine region and spend the next couple of days sampling fantastic locally produced food and of course wine. With over 80 cellar doors the climate is perfect for red wine production particularly Cabernet and Shiraz. Spend the afternoon at the famous Jacobs Creek and join a master class where you will sample a selection of wines and learn how to match them with food, before enjoing a delicious four course lunch where you can sit back, relax and take is the stunning scenery.

Take the scenic drive back to Adelaide and spend one more night in the city before embarking on a journey through the heart of Australia to Darwin. If you love shopping then hit Rundle Street for some retail therapy or if you are more into culture then North Terrace and St Peters Cathedral is for you. If you prefer to sit back and let someone else show you the sights then look at joining a half day city tour which will take you to all the best spots.

Today you will embark on what is considered one of the world's greatest rail journeys. The Ghan travels from Adelaide, through the South Australian outback, onto the Red Centre and up to Darwin. Enjoy the comfort of your gold cabin or get to know your fellow travellers in the Queen Adelaide restaurant car. Your food and drink is included as well as a fantastic choice of off train excursions in Alice Springs and Katherine. Think about upgrading your excursion in Alice Springs to the scenic flight for impressive views over the MacDonell Ranges.    

Tropical Darwin is the hub of the Northern Territory and the gateway to Kakadu National Park. Join the Kakadu National Park Explorer tour which will teach you about Aboriginal culture and give you the chance to view some ancient Aboriginal rock art. Enjoy lunch before cruising the Yelllow Water Billabong, keep your eyes peeled to spot colourful birdlife and salt water crocs. Back in Darwin spend the remainder of your time here exploring the Mindil Beach sunset markets, catch a film at the outdoor deckchair cinema and peruse the many restaurants that line the waterfront.
