Our New Zealand voyage tour is the perfect way to discover everything these beautiful islands have hidden away. This 18-day tour will take you through the heart of this beautiful country. Relax on sandy beaches, walk through spectacular mountain ranges which stretch on for miles. Meet weird and wonderful creatures whilst out whale watching and immerse yourself in the Māori culture.

Starting your tour off in Auckland, you can explore the chic cityscape before cruising over to nearby Rangitoto Island, the home of an active volcano. After that, it’s a cruise around the beaches of the Bay of Islands. Visit a movie set in Rotorua and then stop at Taupo for a chance to see New Zealand’s largest lake before heading to Kaikoura for a spot of whale watching. Head to Queenstown and enjoy jet boating before slowing things down with a night in cosy lodges at Hollyford Track.

A short drive south is the town of Te Anua, which is set deep in the heart of New Zealand’s mountains. From there things get Edwardian as a stay in Dunedin followed by Christchurch will involve punting up the river and a visit to some historic architecture.

Destination 1-2

Auckland

Start your tour of New Zealand in Auckland, which is often called the City of Sails for its connection to the water. Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand is filled with fantastic restaurants and bars that are perfect for immersing yourself in the chic side of Kiwi culture.

If you’re looking for a relaxing time during your stay, there are plenty of beautiful beaches to stretch out on and trails to explore. Or take a 25 minute ferry ride to nearby Rangitoto Island to explore the black lava caves.

Auckland also has a number of museums and there’s the famous Sky Tower which dominates the skyline and gives you the chance to enjoy a spot of luxury dining amongst the clouds.

Destination 3-4

Bay of Islands

A short drive away from Auckland is the Bay of Islands; a collection of 144 islands stretching from Cape Brett to the Pureua Peninsula. Charter yourself a boat for the day and explore the nearby coves before stopping by the famous Hole in the Rock. An area that, according to local Māori legends, warriors used to sail through before heading off into battle. After heading back to land, you can spend an afternoon wandering around Paihia, a quant coastal town that gives you gorgeous views of the bay and surrounding area.

Then enjoy a night living in the lap of luxury at The Sanctuary, which is a boutique lodge set deep in a nearby hillside and offers a perfect escape from the world.

Destination 5

Rotorua

A quick trip south back through Auckland will bring you to the town of Rotorua and the Hobbiton set where they shot parts of the Lord of the Rings.

Start your stay with a stop at the Te Puia Hot Springs, which is just five minutes up the road from the central city. Watch gigantic geysers spray water several metres high before dining on a lunch steam cooked over a thermal vent.

After the geysers it’s an afternoon in Hobbiton, where you can learn some of the camera tricks used in the Lord of the Rings to bring the fantasy world of Tolkien alive. Then it’s an evening munching on authentic Hobbit food in the Shires Rest Café.

Destination 6-7

Lake Taupo

Sitting on the edge of Australia’s largest lake, the quiet town of Taupo offers a never ending list of fun water activities to try.

If you’re plans are more sedate, the area also offers plenty of gorgeous trails into the New Zealand wilderness where you will come across breath taking sights like the thundering Huka Falls waterfall.

If you decide to go further afield there’s the Tongariro National Park, which is home to three volcanoes some of the area’s finest walking routes. With lakes, warm thermal vents and plenty of volcanic craters to explore, this area provides you with perhaps the perfect glimpse of the North Island’s finest natural beauty.

Destination 8

Kaikoura

Once you cross into the South Island, you will be heading down to the home of whale watching, the beautiful town of Kaikoura.

Here you will have the chance to head out on the open water and sail amongst gentle giants and large pods of dolphins on one of our whale watching tours. Alternatively, there are also helicopter and plane tours which will take you high among the clouds above turquoise waters.

Drive further up the beach and meet the nearby seal colony at Ohau Point while taking in magnificent views of the area’s beaches.

Destination 9-10

Queensland

A short drive south to Queenstown will reward you with a stay in the ‘Adventure Capital of the World’.

Set against the impressive backdrop of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, this historic mining town is filled with fun adrenaline-filled activities. Get your heart beating with a bungee jump or face your fears in a daring skydive from a plane thousands of feet in the air before rocketing up a canyon on a jet boat.

For something with a more sedate pace, there are plenty of pony trails that let you take in the scenery at your own pace. Spend an evening under the sea as you head to the Underwater Observatory.

Destination 11-12

Hollyford Track

Book yourself on a transfer flight to Hollyford Track for a trek across the rugged wilderness where early settlers once walked as they charted out these new lands.

Embrace your inner explorer by walking to huge tumbling waterfalls and crossing rivers on swing bridges. Then visit some of the area’s famous glow worm caves and enjoy the amazing spectacle of their green glow lighting your path.

Stop by Long Reef and come face to face with the local New Zealand fur seals before enjoying a cruise across Lake Mckerrow. You can even speed up your crossing by opting for a jet boat instead.

Finally, you will spend an evening being treated like a VIP at one of the cosy lodges tucked into the hillside. Relax in front of roaring fires as you dine on meals cooked by fantastic chefs.

Destination 13

Te Anau

The picturesque town of Te Anau is your next stop on the tour of New Zealand. Surrounded by mountains, this lakeside locale is a quiet getaway that will give you peace from the modern world as you explore the nooks and crannies of this wonderful little town.

Walk along the loop of The Chasm and take in the astounding vistas all around you before heading deep into the 12,000 year old cave systems that are peppered through the area.

Head back to town for a snack and a movie at the Fiordland Cinema. Enjoy daily screenings of the iconic Ata Whenua movie, a film that showcases the landscapes of New Zealand which are often impossible for you to visit in person.

Destination 14-15

Dunedin

As you start to wind down the trip you will be staying in the preserved Victorian cityscape of Dunedin. Filled with all sorts of fascinating cultural icons and fantastic beaches filled with wildlife, there’s plenty to do here.

Spend an afternoon birdwatching at the world’s only mainland breeding colony of Northern Royal Albatrosses as you watch them swoop and soar in the air above the roaring waves.

Then it’s a stop at the Lanarch Castle, a gothic inspired Chateau where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll among their beautiful botanic gardens. Enjoy a drink at the Speights Brewery then spot the rare Yellow Eyed Penguins as you take a Monarch Wildlife Cruise around the bay.

Destination 16-18

Christchurch

Enjoy a relaxing end to your tour with a wander around the peaceful town of Christchurch. Take in some of the world’s best preserved Victorian architecture as you punt up the river with a local guide dressed in vintage clothing.

Stop by New Regent Street and experience the latest in Kiwi culture and creativity in this hotspot of entertainment.

On day two in Christchurch, head to the nearby Cardboard Cathedral, named for its 86 giant cardboard tubes which were used in its construction after the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes. Learn of the heroism and loss on that day with an educational visit to the Quake City Museum before dining out at one of the city’s many restaurants.
