Northern Territory Holidays

A holiday to the Northern Territory introduces you to a diverse and stunning state. From the Top End's lush wetlands to the scorched outback of the Red Centre, Northern Territory holidays will leave you in awe of nature's extremeties.

Explore the fascinating tropical city of Darwin, perfect for relaxing with a laid-back atmosphere that makes the area so popular with visitors. Bordered by the Timor Sea, Darwin has great beaches, art galleries and a host of attractions to explore on its waterfront. Go sailing or explore along Cullen Bay Marina, before ending your day at Mindil Beach Sunset Market, where you can browse the stalls for arts and crafts souvenirs, and try fresh and tasty dishes from around the world.

The Top End is an eco wonderland; from the waterfalls of Litchfield National Park to the wetlands of Kakadu National Park. Great for experiencing the wilder side of life, here you can see the saltwater crocodile, buffalo, lizards, barramundi and wallabies that have made the area their home. In Kakadu, you can visit the ancient Aboriginal rock art sites and take a cruise to spot birdlife and saltwater crocodiles. Then venture on to Litchfield National Park where you can take the opportunity to swim through clear waters and under waterfalls.Tucked in the northeast corner, you'll find the cave paintings of Arnhem Land which tell stories of Aboriginal civilizations dating back almost 60,000 years.

By contrast, the Red Centre is named so, for the fiery coloured sands of the arid outback desert. A sacred place, where Uluru and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) brood over the landscape and where dingoes, wallabies and emus make their home. Uluru has to be one of Australia’s most recognisable icons. In the heart of Australia, it seems to rise from nowhere, changing colour from sunrise to sunset - a mesmerising sight to behold.

Visit the outback town of Alice Springs, home to the Museum of Central Australia and the Alice Springs Reptile Centre, where you'll discover snakes and lizards including the extraordinary ‘thorny devil’ lizard which blends into Red Centre landscape like a chameleon.

It is also possible to take in both the Northern Territory and South Australia in one epic train journey. Hop on board The Ghan, named after a classic Afghan camel route, for a spectacular train journey through the country's centre. Absorb the changing landscapes from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south as you travel in a luxurious gold service cabin.
