Great Ocean Road Holidays

Voted one of the best coastal drives in the world, the Great Ocean Road is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most popular and scenic driving routes. Jaw-dropping scenery makes for a thrilling 240-kilometre drive along the southern coastline.

Starting in the surf capital of Torquay, you will wind your way through quaint coastal towns to Apollo Bay, stopping off en route to witness breathtaking vistas of the dramatic coastline. Driving this route takes you along cliff tops, across estuaries and alongside some of the country’s most beautiful beaches.

Great Ocean Road highlights

Of course, you don’t just drive from one end to the other. The joy of Great Ocean Road holidays is not the ultimate destination, but the journey — you can spend as long as you like taking in the sights of Victoria, enjoying as much or as little of the route as you fancy. Keep an eye out for Australia’s oldest lighthouse and remote beaches ready to explore in between the towns as you make your way along the road.

Widely regarded as the most picturesque part of the route, the section between Lorne and Apollo Bay juts between the cliffs providing incredible views of the crashing waves of the Southern Ocean and Bass Strait. Also on the way to Apollo Bay is Great Otway National Park, where you can swap the wheels for a pair of walking boots  and enjoy some — or all — of the 91-kilometre Great Ocean Walk.

The pinnacle of the Great Ocean Road tours is the stretch along the coast of Port Campbell National Park. Here you’ll drive past the Twelve Apostles, a series of rugged rock stacks that rise from the Southern Ocean. The peaks go from dark and eerie at sunrise and sunset, to glorious sandy yellow when the hot Australian sun is at its highest point. For the ultimate experience, take a helicopter ride over the Twelve Apostles.

Take your time to enjoy the Great Ocean Road in all its splendour by planning stops along the way. You’ll take in quirky towns and rapidly changing scenery on a journey you’ll remember forever.

Apollo Bay

A coastal town in south west Victoria, Apollo Bay is located along the spectacular Great Ocean Road on the eastern side of the cape. Backdropped by the rolling green hills of the Otways, the bay is a popular tourist destination for many. A large marina provides the base for a number of fishing boats; an important industry for the local area. Enjoy fabulous views from Beacon Point and wander the gift shops, galleries and regular Saturday markets.
