Melbourne Holidays

Melbourne is renowned for being one of the world's most liveable cities, and relishes its reputation as Australia's most stylish and cosmopolitan centres.

Holidays to Melbourne offer chic boutiques, trendy eateries and cutting edge culture. To uncover the city’s best kept secrets head to the Laneways, where hours can be spent discovering vintage and designer boutiques. The best places to eat, drink or even catch a show are the reward for those who delve the deepest. It’s been said that there are so many treasures hidden along the way on a Melbourne holiday that even some of the locals haven’t discovered them all yet.

Melbourne Holiday Highlights

In a city with more than 100 galleries, Melbourne holidays aren’t complete without soaking up some of the fascinating artistic culture. A great way to enjoy the art scene while exploring the city is to keep an eye out for the sign-posted trails. They will tell you more about each location, how they have inspired artists and details of the works created from this. The National Gallery of Victoria holds a large international collection, or for something different, head to one of the many smaller, independent galleries in the Laneways.

Melbourne maintains the links to its historical past with some of Australia's best museums, parklands and 19th century Goldrush buildings. The Melbourne museum is home to eight galleries full of permanent exhibits, including a children’s gallery and a complete blue whale skeleton. There is even an IMAX theatre on site. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the country’s fascinating history, while taking some time out of the sun to cool down.

Getting around Melbourne

As the only surviving network in Australia, the tram is both an iconic part of Melbourne life and one of the easiest ways to get around. They’ve even converted an old tram car into a restaurant, so you can enjoy a five course meal and the great city sights. For a step away from city life, hop on the tram to the nearby St Kilda beach. It’s a great place for windsurfers and sailors, as well as those just wanting to take a relaxing stroll by the shore.

Famous for its love of all things sporty, Melbourne is home to numerous international events. Every year it hosts the Australian Open tennis tournament and the Grand Prix. It even boasts being home to the Australian Football League grand final. With all this going on, you’ll never run out of things to do on a Melbourne holiday.
