Day 4

Tunnel Creek & Windjana Gorge

There’s time for a good breakfast at your hotel in Broome before we take a morning visit to the Boab Prison Tree, a local landmark that is believed to be over 1,500 years old. Due to its sizeable girth and hollow trunk, the tree is believed to have been used as a temporary jail cell for prisoners being transported to the nearby town of Derby.

From there, we head further into the outback along the Gibb River Road before stopping at Tunnel Creek, a huge natural tunnel that sits at the heart of the Napier Range. There’ll be plenty of amazing photo opportunities before we re-join the Gibb River Road on the way to the Windjana Gorge and the King Leopold National Park. After a full day on the road, you’ll book in for a two night stay at the wonderful Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge, where dinner is served on arrival.

Bell Gorge

Day five is dedicated to exploring Bell Gorge, one of the most iconic points on the Gibb River Road. Here you’ll have chance to view natural wildlife and birdlife in a truly picturesque setting. We’ll stop at both Galvans Gorge and Manning Gorge along the way, where there’s plenty of time to cool off in crystal clear waters before enjoying a spot of lunch in the shade.

Moving on from the gorges, we’ll take you to your next accommodation at Home Valley Station, a sprawling cattle property set on the shores of Bindoola Creek that has been converted into an upscale lodge. The magnificent backdrop of Cockburn Range was famously featured in Baz Luhrmann’s 2008 film Australia. Day 7

El Questro

Having arrived at El Questro Township, you’ll book into your accommodation at the Emma Gorge Resort for a comfortable one night stay. There’s also the option to enjoy the unrivalled peace and tranquillity of Zebedee Strings, a natural thermal pool set in the heart of the prehistoric Livistona forest.

  • Suggested Accommodation El Questro, Emma Gorge Resort
Day 8

Emma Gorge & Kununurra

There’s plenty more to do on your second day in El Questro, starting with a morning hike around nearby Emma Gorge. Following a scenic hour trek over rocky terrain, you’ll soon reach a majestic waterfall and natural pools surrounded by tree-lined cliffs – the perfect place for a relaxing dip.

Having spent the morning at Emma Gorge, we head east towards the town of Kununurra, one of the largest settlements outside of Broome, situated among rolling hills and ranges. Here you’ll find the biggest manmade lake in the southern hemisphere, Lake Argyle, a truly impressive sight with an intriguing history. Of course, no trip to Kununurra would be complete without a boat cruise down the Ord River, the perfect way to spot local wildlife in their natural habitat. There’s even time for a sunset boat ride on Lake Kununurra before heading back to the Country Club Resort for a well earned evening meal.

  • Meals Fullboard
  • Suggested Accommodation Kununurra Country Club Resort
Day 9

Purnululu National Park

Your ninth day in Western Australia is dedicated to exploring Purnululu National Park, a reserve that’s home to the famous Bungle Bungle Range. Despite having been revered by indigenous custodians for over 40,000 years, it’s amazing to think this incredible region only came to wider national attention in 1983. Now a World Heritage site, the towering maze of striped sandstone domes offers a strange and spectacular landscape like no other.

The Echidna Chasm is another memorable highlight of the park, and well worth a few hours trekking through the Livistona trails. The high ridges and striking colour variations that flow through the entire length of the chasm are a sight to behold. After a long day’s trek, it’s time to settle in at the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge for a comfortable two-night stay.

Cathedral Gorge

You simply can’t experience all that Purnululu has to offer in one day. On your second day in the area, we’ll take you on a trip of another side of the park, starting with a hike around the winding gorge at Piccaninny Creek. From there we’ll make our way towards Cathedral Gorge, an incredible red rock formation that has created a natural amphitheatre with astounding acoustics. Many people also take the opportunity to view the area from a bird’s eye view on a scenic helicopter tour, which we’d be happy to help arrange at an additional expense.

  • Suggested Accommodation Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge
Day 11

Fitzroy Crossing

After breakfast at the lodge, it’s over to Halls Creek to view the natural white quartz formation known as the China Wall. It’s certainly interesting to hear the many aboriginal tales about how this formation came to exist.

We then hit the road to Fitzroy Crossing, a modest settlement that lies on the banks of the Fitzroy River. Here you’ll stay at the quaint Fitzroy River Lodge, a perfect setting to relax and enjoy a delicious evening meal and drinks.
