Auckland Holidays

Auckland is the kind of city where most of the population live within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and holiday islands, because they can’t bear to be any further away. Affectionately known as the 'City of Sails' because of its love of the water, holidays to Auckland are perfect for watersports enthusiasts. There are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water, with jet boating, windsurfing, kite surfing and kayaking all readily available. Embark on a snorkelling trip to discover fascinating marine life, including swimming with dolphins, or if you’re feeling brave, take part in a diving with shark’s experience. For a more relaxing way to enjoy the water, hop on a scenic boat cruise to take in the sights of the harbour.

Auckland Holiday Highlights

The harbour is also home to a large range of some of Auckland’s finest restaurants. With the food scene rapidly spreading across the city, everything from succulent home grown lamb to spicy traditional sushi is on the menu. The local seafood is a fresh and delicious highlight, but no matter what you choose, there will always be the perfect local wine to accompany your meal.

Auckland holidays are not truly complete without spending time wandering some of the many local markets. Foodies will happily spend hours browsing the stalls, filled with organic vegetables, rich chocolate, and of course local wines, while fashion lovers won’t know where to start with so many unique pieces on offer. But the shopping opportunities don’t stop there. Auckland boasts a huge range of malls, some full of designer boutiques, others home to smaller local stores.

There's much more to Auckland holidays than just the city centre, Waiheke Island - just a short ferry ride away - is known for its excellent wineries and beaches. Award-winning wines are available, from which to sample and purchase or you can simply enjoy a delicious lunch looking out over the vineyards.

Iconic landscapes

The Waitakere Ranges are just a short drive out of the city, home to lush wilderness forests, rare native flora and fauna.  It’s walking trails range from the simple 45 minute Kitekite track, where you’ll see natural waterfalls and streams, to the self guided four day Hilary track, where experienced hikers can experience the depths of the lush rainforests.

As the largest city in New Zealand, Auckland has a multicultural vibe with plenty to keep everyone entertained. Whether you want to explore the harbour and surrounds, or visit the iconic Sky Tower, holidays to Auckland are the perfect place to enjoy urban bustle, combined with great outdoor activities.

If you like your wine, definitely make the short ferry trip from Auckland over to Waiheke Island for a wine tour. The last stop on this tour took us to Te Whau Vineyard which had a fabulous restaurant with 360-degree views.
