Christchurch is the second-largest city in New Zealand, and is located on the edge of the Canterbury Plains with a backdrop of hills and the Pacific Ocean. Christchurch's roots are very English which can be seen by its architecture and the beautiful Hagley Park or Mona Vale Homestead gardens.

Inside Re:START is a multi-media attraction called Quake City, which captures stories and experiences from the city’s seismic history. Modern-day Christchurch has five-star, unique dining options, a huge choice of accommodation options and many attractions and activities.

The capital of Canterbury is a compact, flat city, which means that it’s perfect for cycling around or exploring on foot. A great way to spend a day in Christchurch is by exploring the galleries and museums in the city centre and spending the rest of the afternoon relaxing in Hagley Park. Inside this glorious green haven are the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and a scenic golf course.

Gateway to the South Island

Christchurch as a base is ideal for exploring the rest of the South Island. Further afield is Akaroa where you can swim with the dolphins; head inland and laze in the thermal springs of Hanmer Springs; or go north to Kaikoura where you can join a whale watch boat.

Within driving distance of Canturbury, to the west, is Mount Cook National Park, a wonderful spot for some of the clearest views of the night sky in the world. Venture to the east and you’ll find Banks Peninsula, a sanctuary of sheltered bays, sandy beaches and rocky coastline.

It really is true that you can enjoy any kind of holiday imaginable in the diverse and unique Christchurch.
