Head to the cosmopolitan city of Brisbane and ring in the New Year in style. There are two firework displays over South Bank – one at 8pm and the all-important show as the clock strikes midnight. Arrive early to get a good spot or pre-book an all-inclusive party package or special dining experience.
A city that’s rapidly emerging onto the food scene, dine al fresco, feast on worldwide cuisine from Italian to Japanese, and try out food trucks serving quesadillas and ribs. There’s plenty to keep you entertained during your stay in the city, including the Story Bridge Adventure Climb and Wheel of Brisbane offering panoramic views of the city. Wander through the City Botanic Gardens where you can explore the vast species of unusual flora and fauna, take a dip in the shallow lagoons and chill out on the man-made beach.
Included in this itinerary is a visit to Australia Zoo, founded by the ‘Crocodile Hunter’, the late Steve Irwin. Kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, you name it, this is the place to see all of Australia’s native animals in one place. Plus, there are many other amazing animals too, including elephants and giraffes in the zoo’s massive open-range Africa exhibit. Visit the Crocoseum with its action-packed Wildlife Warriors show at noon every day and watch numerous demonstrations including snake handling.
