A trip to Australia or New Zealand would not be complete without embarking on one of the legendary rail journeys available.
The Ghan, named after the Afghan camel trains, has evolved from being the first form of transport to the Red Centre to an impressive journey combining breathtaking scenery, fine dining and unbeatable service. Running from Adelaide to Darwin, via Alice Springs, this journey is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating in the world. The Sunlander meanders through scenic countryside and past coastal towns, up the East Coast between Brisbane to Cairns. The Tilt Train reaches up to 160km allowing quick and easy access between Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns, whilst also allowing some wonderful views of the East Coast. The Indian Pacific traverses Australia, coast to coast from Sydney to Perth. Witness ever changing terrains as you cross the incredible Blue Mountains, the remote Nullarbor Plain and stunning goldfields of Western Australia.
In New Zealand, guests aboard the Tranzcoastal are sure to see whales, dolphins and seals as the train travels the length of the picturesque coast from the small port of Picton on the south island to the city of Christchurch. The Overlander train is also well worth planning for, as it runs from Wellington to Auckland taking in wonderful views of New Zealand’s farm land, volcanoes and river gorges, each offering some fantastic photo opportunities not to be missed.
