Often referred to as 'the jewel of the south coast', Jervis Bay is located approximately three hours drive south of Sydney.
Jervis Bay is renowned for its secluded bays and safe white sand beaches, clear blue turquoise waters and marine and bird life. Huskisson is the main town of Jervis Bay and the point from which you can join dolphin watching cruises, take a fishing trip or simply go sailing. The area is famed for being one of the world’s best land-based fishing spots for giant marlin.
Things to do in Jervis Bay
With an abundance of beaches and hidden lagoons, coves and creeks, Jervis Bay holidays are ideal for all types of aquatic activities. Dive facilities are in abundance here and with shore diving available off many of the regions beaches, Jervis Bay is also perfect for diving beginners. The waters of Jervis Bay Marine Park are where you can try your hand at kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Try some surfing at Cave Beach or take a gentle swim in the calm waters of Green Patch Beach.
At the southern most end of Jervis Bay you will encounter Booderee National Park and its picturesque wilderness. In the Park’s south. Head out from Wreck Bay village on walking trails that circle the peninsula to St Georges Head. You will pass several quiet beaches, cliffs and forests. Around Jervis Bay you will encounter Booderee National Park, St Georges Basin and the ocean. This is an area is rich in culture and Aboriginal heritage and the name “Booderee” is actually an Aboriginal word that means 'bay of plenty', hence it has a great reputation with fishing enthusiasts.
Unique wildlife
Whale watching is a popular activity on Jervis Bay holidays, so if you’d like to watch whales, then head on over to the historic lighthouse at Cape St George between May and November. At any other time, you can still see dolphins in the bay and spring time is very pretty, with lots of brightly coloured wildflowers. Venture out a bit further and you will enjoy country and coastal villages, wander though local markets and boutique shops and several art galleries. The area also has some world-class restaurants, cafes and wine bars and the Jervis Bay hotels, provide all tastes and pockets with a wide variety of accommodation.
